I stayed there 4/16/10 and was hassled by a Sheriff Hanes. He gave me 2 hrs to exit the cg. I contacted and filed a formal written complaint with the sheriffs dept for which he was disaplined. I was given permission to stay. Permits are for groups only. I stayed again in 11/10 and in 4/11 with no problems. Few campers are there at these times.

We tried to stay there 3/21/10. The sheriff was very nasty. He informed us that the computer site is incorrect and that we were to leave immediately and get a permit at the Fair Grounds. This was at 6pm. He did not care what we had to say and had no comment regarding the fact that there is no information on site to tell anyone this.

It is no longer free. We just stayed there this past weekend. A Pinal County Sherif stopped by to speak to us. He said a permit is now required to stay at this campground. You can buy them at the Pinal County fairgrounds. He said they are not only going to site you for not having a permit, they will give you a ticket for trespassing as well. That inclused groups.

LOVELY!!!!! Quiet, scenic and laid out so that each site is private and clean. Many varieties of cactus "trees" from Sahuaro to Joshua, and it sits on a little "hump" so you can see all the way to Phoenix. The covered slabs with tables and trash cans are a pleasant spot for morning coffee. Not a "destination" campground, but one of the nicest overnites I have done. I almost wanted to stay the day to enjoy the park. Downside.. noise from the 8 freeway, but it was minimal.
