Description
Lower Piedra Campground is west of Chimney Rock about four miles on the north side of Highway 160. Turn right on Forest Road 621 and the camp is just off the highway one mile. Only facilities are pit toilets. Sign says 32-foot limit, but there is more room in some spots than that and there is plenty of room to maneuver. The campground is open May 1 through Nov 1, 14-day camp limit. Nice clean campground and no highway noise. Great spot for an overnight stay.

I was there Aug 27,2008. Don't count on $6 a night. More like $15.

It's been awhile, but I remember a clear water pond alongside the road going into the campground. It is spring fed from a PVC pipe coming out of the hillside. The pipe is accessible from the campground by the nimble-footed over a somewhat soggy path. The water has always been good tasting and safe to drink. The Piedra (Stone) River flows by on the east side of the grounds. It'll put you to sleep. Good place.

It should be the campsite fee is six dollars a day. Thinking about it again, there were I believe five pull throughs for RVs. If you want to know all the campground locations in every state with the park info and fees, go to the US National Forestry Campground Guide: website is www.forestcamping.com/index.htm. All of the National Forest campgrounds I've stayed at are well under ten dollars, with some free, and those are getting harder to find.
