On our first night driving to the Keys, we decided to rest at one of the fishing bridge parking lots. It seems at every bridge in the Keys there are fishing parking lots. We slept the whole night undisturbed. Granted we have a stealthy Sprinter van so it blends well with fishers' vehicles. Morning views of the ocean were beautiful, although the stay was loud because you are right on US-1 with passing trucks all night. I would strongly suggest park at your own risk.

Good comment about Lazy Lakes. I haven't been there yet but plan to spend time there in early May. $30 for a tent site is something I'd rather do than try to Boondock in the Keys. And they said they always have tent sites available and we can just sleep in our VW van, no need to actually set up a tent.

Lazy Lakes campground is 19 miles north of Key West. Water and electric hook ups but not sure about sewer. They have a special this summer 2013 so check it out. Even during the high season the price is not bad in comparison. They have a pool and showers. It's not glamorous but fun and close to Key West.

Bet camp grounds pushed for the no over night parking.Guess with what they charge they need help finding RV's to stay with them. Could go a little north and make day trips.Only place I know that charge you an arm and leg and laugh at you.
