Description
State parks offer a 50% discount to handicapped persons. Most state parks are priced in the $10 to $15 range which makes the discounted price between $5 and $10 a night. That's a pretty good deal. If I'm not mistaken, the Corps of Engineers has the same offer. Just make sure you have documentation of your handicap.

We spent Thanksgiving weekend 2006 at Lake Ouachita State Park. Very nice but I don't remember if I got the discount or not. It was worth whatever I paid, I know that!

We stay at the Jacksonport State Park near Newport, AR. It's a great park and the employees are great people. COE park in Maumelle Lake, Maumelle, AR is also a great place to stay.

You can't count on the park being open. We have been there at all different times of the year and some are always closed.

Arkansas State Parks are not currently honoring Golden Eagle passes. You can get a discount as resident and non-resident alike: resident a little more, but not on Friday/Saturday.

If you haven't be to an Arkansas state park since '95, it is time you went back. I've been all over the state and they are always very good. There are a few that are not used very much and are being opened on a limited basis during the year, but many have brand-new restrooms and showering facilities. We enjoy the state parks in Arkansas.

We stayed at one state park and the campsite and bathrooms were disgusting. Haven't been back since 1995.

We've stayed at quite a few Arkansas parks and they all honor the Golden Age Passport, resulting in overnight fees less than $10. One of the nicest in Arkansas is the Buffalo National River Park in the Ozarks. We stayed at Crater of Diamonds, DeGray Lake Resort, and Lake Charles State Parks in addition to Craighead Forest City Park in Jonesboro (right on a lake). Never have stayed at a bad park in Arkansas.

My wife and I have stayed in any number of Arkansas State Parks. The scenery is usually great, the park personnel are courteous and helpful, and the price is right. For those of us over 65 they offer a half price on the normal camping fees. Subject to change, of course!

The same is also true of all national parks. Any U.S. citizens or persons who permanently reside (are domiciled) in the United States, regardless of age, and who have a medical determination and documentation of blindness or permanent disability may obtain a Golden Access Passport good for free admission to any National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, Corps of Engineers, Fish and Wildlife Service, Forest Service and Tennessee Valley Authority sites. It also provides a 50% discount on federal use fees charged for facilities and services such as camping, swimming, parking, boat launching and specialized interpretive services. U.S. citizens 62 years or older may obtain a lifetime Golden Age Passport for $10 at http://www.nps.gov/fees_passes.htm
