Description
This is a gorgeous campground in a magnificent setting, surrounded by red rock cliffs and next to a historic Mormon fruit orchard that still produces fruit that's free for the picking in-season. We loaded up on apricots and they were yummy! The campground is in Capitol Reef National Park and fills up fast in the summer tourist season. All sites are primitive and $10 a night. Several free primitive campgrounds are nearby. The park and campground are reached via either Utah Route 24, via Highway 12 from the west. Restrooms, but no showers. 435-425-3791

I was wondering if you could tell me how busy it would be in two weeks on the 1st of April.

If the campground is full, there are quite a few spots just outside the park to the east, which is toward Hanksville. There is a large turnoff and rest area around the Notom Road junction. It has a restroom. And there are several large and cleared areas with trees.

We have been here since late March. This is one of the best campgrounds we have visited. There are 69 total sites of which 6 are walk-in tent sites (walk less than 100 yards). The campground has 3 loops: A,B,C. A loop sites #1 & #2 are the campground hosts. Check with them for site availability or alternatives. The C loop has some of the largest sites; however A & B also have some large ones. There is a group site with its own bath, pavillion, tables & set away from the CG. It can accommodate up to 40 people and 10 vehicles for $50.00 per night, and can be reserved by calling the Visitors Center. If you need any more info, email us. We would be glad to hear from you!

There are 70 sites there that can accommodate, I believe, up to 65 feet. I will repost in early April as we are going to be Campground Hosts from April thru July! I will post more specific info once we get there!

Could I get a 30' class C motorhome in here? I would love to check this out! Thanks!

We have stayed here a couple of times. Enjoyed watching the deer. SR 12 is a beautiful road. Just use caution in large vehicles.

Spent a couple of nights there in October 2004. What a beautiful campground in the fall! This is a great national park with very friendly rangers. The campground is primitive, but very clean and well organized. Good restrooms are available but no hookups. Beautiful setting and you can eat all the fruit you want in season for free in the orchards. You pay for any that you take out of the orchards. (Seems very fair to me)!

This is a great park. Very scenic, orderly and restful with plenty to see. For a truly scenic drive, try Utah Highway 12.
