Check out http://www.lbl.org I would suggest stopping at any of the visitor centers and find out more about the free camping.

Where do you get the $15 pass for the free camping?? And could someone be more specific in terms of area for those of us not from KY. Are you saying just 'anywhere' between the Lakes, you can just pull over and camp?? :-) I'm sure you're not but....

We were able to get our 29-foot RV travel trailer in and out of the regular back country camping areas (free set on campsites with tables and grills). You can also park just about anywhere you want and set up camp with bedroll, tent, or RV. There are several fee camping areas that have showers and water that can be accessed even if you are back country camping. There are also three dump stations you can go to (one at each end and one in the middle).

We used to be stationed at Ft Campbell, KY. We spent most every weekend at Land Between The Lakes, most of it in a van with no hookups. The fishing was great, and there were maps set up for fishing that showed fish finder locations for hotspots. As well as free camping in the rurals, they had free boatramps too! There were also marinas and paid "luxury" campgrounds. The rural campsites had fireplaces and picnic tables, at least one water tap and porta-jons, if I remember right.

I have spent a lot of time at 'Land Between the Lakes.' It's got miles and miles of roads, 1XX roads paved, 2XX roads graded or paved, 3XX roads if you like an extreme "jeep trail." Maps available at the north entrance and the welcome center. The nicest maps are the ones printed for the hunters. There's a dusty, beat-up "ATV / dirt bike area" with an entrance fee. I ride a quasi-street legal (registered, plated, insured)dirt bike and can go anywhere except the horse trails and beat to hell ATV area. This area used to be governed by the TVA but is now under the control of the USDA Forest Service. I haven't noticed any changes in policies. I park my motorhome 'way back in the boonies and ride hundreds of miles on my dirt bike. Sadly, however, none of my GPS equipment details this area. For anyone with a street legal dirt bike, it's heaven! Camping? Perfect 'boondocking.' 2 dump stations are available. One of the few areas left not stifled by state or Federal regulations. My favorite place!
