Description
In southeastern Utah 4 miles off highway 163 down state route 316, some 8 miles from Mexican Hat in the remote desert. Be prepared as you pull in to feel disappointed. There is a pit toilet and some picnic tables. Until you approach the edge of the park, a cliff and gaze 1000 feet into one of the biggest entrenched meanders in North America. In a one-mile expanse the river is 6 miles long, snaking back and forth on itself. Free camping is allowed anywhere in the expanse of a few miles. No water, great view and really off the beaten path.

Any steep grades to maneuver to get to this site? We are pulling a travel trailer. Where are the switchbacks/10% grade/gravel on 261 relative to this?

The "best?" boondocking location in the US is Gooseneck state Park in Utah near Mexico Hat (do a Google search) a few miles north of Monument Valley. (N37.17452 W10992640) You can park as close to rim of the Canyon (as nice as Grand Canyon ?) as you want (?) to. Then go up the "Mountain" on route 261. Turn left at the first dirt road for a view from the top. (n37.23307 W109.99329) Also visit the "Garden of the Gods" at the foot of the mountain. Nether is a trip to take with any "big" rig. Only the TOW. If you have time drive on to Glen Canyon rive

We just drove up to day to check this out and WOW was our expression. It appears as if nothing is there but an overlook, a somewhat small parking lot and a picnic table under a cabana and an outhouse - but as you walk to the rim, the view is breathtaking. There were 3 pickup campers, two tenters, and a Class C all camped near the rim. Had we not had reservations at Goulding's, we would have stayed here as we really like boondocking. Next time in this area, as long as the weather is comfortable, this is the place to stay.

Just plain drop dead views. Very quiet and peaceful place to stay overnight

You can park any place you want to. Dirt/rock road runs about a mile around the "cliffs". Black top road at the rest rooms. There are only 4 picnic tables, but lots of wide open space. We stay there in a 33 foot travel trailer in April 08

I have to add my raves about this wonderful FREE place to camp. It is so peaceful and quiet. Also, the road is entirely paved and the park can accommodate any size RV unit. This was one of our favorite sites.

It is wonderful, remote, quiet. And NEW RESTROOMS now. No better scenery anywhere. No water. Have stayed here numerous times through the years. Please don't litter.

About four years ago, I drove south to Moki Dugway and then down with my pop-up. It was late and I was looking for a place to camp before it got dark. What a nice surprise this was. I set up close to the rim and watched the light play across the canyon walls. I think there were maybe 3-4 other campers there besides me.

After 4 years of full-timing, this was one of the most beautiful sites we've stayed! Plan on at least 2 nights so you can have a day to drive up to the top of the mesa! Go beyond the top, take 1st left and go to the end. Pack a lunch. WOW!

Yes, a 35-foot rig would fit.
