Big dog is great for security

(February, 2001)

I thought I might offer our method of security and experiences. Since we are aware "crooks" will often "case" RVs when parking in other than secure campgrounds we devised what has proven excellent security. My wife walks our large female Doberman (who is very protective of her) around the lot while I make myself obvious walking around the bus while keeping an eye on the two of them. By making sure all three of us are seen (especially our security guard, Penny the Doberman) re-entering the bus we feel secure. She sleeps in front of the only entrance door and would bark and growl loudly if anyone tryed the lock.

The only time anyone came close they quickly retreated as soon as they saw her looking out the door window. They didn't even get close enough to cause her to bark.

My advice is travel with a dog, the bigger the better. Even a small one will usually make enough noise to "scare off" undesirables.

Editors note: I don't agree with this camper's statement that "crooks" will often 'case' RV's. . ." I think this might happen once in awhile, but only infrequently.
