Explanation/Experience
We tried to stay there, but found out that Anchorage passed a bylaw against overnight parking in any parking lot.

There is no local law in Anchorage against overnight stays in commercial parking lots; Wal-Mart manager was ill-informed or lying. Local rumor is that overnight stays were discontinued after abuses by vagabond job hunters from lower 48 set up camp for the summer.

Anchorage was the least RV friendly city on our trip from California to AK. Fairbanks, AK and Whitehorse, YT, were both very accommodating.
